Spray Gun
Spray guns can be in different types, like HVLP (High Volume, Low Pressure), LVLP (Low Volume, Low Pressure), airless, and conventional spray guns.
Advice: Choosing, Using & Maintaining
Choosing the Right Paint Spray Gun
There are several types of spray guns, and choosing the right one depends on your project.
- HVLP (High Volume, Low Pressure)
- Best for fine finishes (automotive, furniture, cabinets).
- Uses more air but reduces overspray.
- Works well with water-based and solvent-based paints.
- LVLP (Low Volume, Low Pressure)
- Good for DIY projects and small-scale work.
- Requires less air, so it works with smaller compressors.
- Suitable for thinner coatings.
- Airless Spray Guns
- Best for large surfaces (walls, fences, decks).
- High-pressure system that covers fast but uses more paint.
- Ideal for thick coatings like latex paints.
- Conventional (Compressed Air) Spray Guns
- High pressure, professional finish.
- Requires a good air compressor.
- More overspray than HVLP.
Tips for Using a Paint Spray
✅ Prepare the Surface: Sand, clean, and prime if necessary.
✅ Thin the Paint (If Needed): Some spray tools require thinning (e.g., HVLP guns). Check manufacturer recommendations.
✅ Adjust the Spray Pattern: Most guns let you adjust between circular, horizontal, and vertical spray patterns.
✅ Maintain the Right Distance: Keep the gun 6-12 inches away from the surface.
✅ Use Even Strokes: Move in smooth, overlapping passes to avoid streaks or uneven coverage.
✅ Test Before Spraying: Always test on scrap material to adjust settings.
Cleaning & Maintenance
🛠 Clean Immediately After Use: Prevents clogging and buildup.
🛠 Disassemble & Soak Nozzle: Use the appropriate cleaner for the paint type.
🛠 Check for Clogs: If the gun sputters, the nozzle might be clogged.
🛠 Lubricate Moving Parts: Keeps the trigger and needle working smoothly.
